Race, Housing & EU Law: the cjeu & the danish law on public housing

In December 2025, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) issued its long-awaited judgment of the Danish Law on Public Housing case (Case C-417/23). Given the paucity of preliminary reference rulings about the Race Equality Directive, this judgment warrants some unpacking.

On 13 January 2026, the Institute of European and Comparative Law (IECL) of the University of Oxford and the European Law Review organised a webinar to do just that. Prof. Dr. Iyiola Solanke (Somerville College, Oxford University); Prof. Tamara Ćapeta (Advocate General, Court of Justice of the European Union); Prof. Dr. Bruno de Witte (Emeritus Professor of European Union Law, Maastricht University); Dr Hanna Eklund (Assistant Professor of Constitutional Law, University of Copenhagen); and I offered our insights during this webinar.
